Our new one-year textile full-time programme, you learn to freely develop your own ideas based on different techniques and methods related to sewing. The practical training involves courses in sewing, material science, draping, design, embroidery, textile and costume history and dyeing. After the foundation year you will master basic sewing and can, through your own sketch, produce a product or garment and do innovative work in the textile field.
The course design will develop your creativity and sense of color and form and work towards finding your own artistic expression. In the textile and costume history, you will get a cultural and art historical basis with a focus on folk costume and fashion. In our own dyeing studio you will learn how to color and process fabrics so that you can colorize your work. In sewing, you will study different techniques and methods in both hand- and machine sewing. In sewing, you will use both traditional and overlock machines and sew garments, details and interior textiles as well as experiment and try new things out. In draping you will get solid knowledge of how to shape and cut the fabric on the mannequin. In art sewing, you learn different embroidery techniques and in the course Tambour you will learn to embroider with silk thread and beads for folk costume and fashion. You also get knowledge of mounting and materials, and to develop, interpret sketches and make job descriptions as well as material and cost estimates. The program ends with a single project in any textile technology with guidance in the form, sewing and draping. The program is full-time, daytime. The program is also preparatory for further studies in art, fashion and / or textile in colleges such as the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design / Konstfack, Beckmans college of design Beckmans designhögskola, The Swedish School of Textiles / Borås Textilhögskola, and HDK.
The formal requirement is that you must have
completed upper-secondary school or equivalent
education qualifications. You may also qualify
if you are expected to assimilate the education.
Textile experience and skills in colour - and design is
considered additional qualifications.
The tuition fee is SEK 25 000 / term, with additional
costs for materials. Textile Handicrafts: Foundation
Diploma is covered by the Regulation of Art and
Culture Education, and you are therefore eligible to
apply for student aid at university level.
After having completed and passed Textile
Handicraft: Foundation Diploma Sewing, you will
receive a course certificate.

Application and admission
To apply for this programme you need to attach the following documents:
1. Photocopy of ID (driver's license, passport, ID card)
2. Diploma from Swedish high school or equivalent.
3. Work samples:
To your application, we want you to submit a portfolio that shows your creative ability. We also want you to solve an assignment that you submit pictures of. Task and portfolio should be sent as a PDF file. Images should have a resolution of 300dpi.
In your portfolio we want you to submit pictures of works that show a varied selection of your skills. You present works / projects carried out in optional techniques and materials, spread over 4 pages. It can be e g textile works, idea sketches, photos, drawings or collages. However, at least one work should be a hand-drawn sketch or drawing made in pencil, marker, charcoal or chalk. Enter the selected technique under each image. Label each page with: "portfolio".
This year's task means that you show us your interpretation of the theme:
Choose one of the virtues or all three. You can solve the task in any way, there is no right or wrong in how you do it - try to relate freely, use your imagination and do it your way. You choose which materials and techniques you want to work in and present the task distributed over 2 pages. Keep in mind that you can also present a process or examination of the concept / concepts. Label each page with: “assignment".
4. Cover Letter:
In the cover letter you should present yourself, tell us why you are applying for the programme and give us a brief justification for how you work / want to work within textile. Max one (1) A4 page in PDF format.
5. Brief CV:
Write a CV where you enter your previous education and relevant work experience. Max one (1) A4 page in PDF format.

Admission to the course is determined through a jury group with a selection of the candidates. An acceptance mail will be sent to all candidates from mid-May and onward.
For non-Swedish students
Students must make their own living arrangements and make sure that they are covered by insurance before arriving in Sweden.
If you need to apply for a student visa we can speed up the process since the visa application process can take be time consuming, it might take several months.
If you are accepted to the HV School we will send you a formal certificate of confirmation. You will need this document when you apply to the Swedish Migration Board (www.migrationsverket.se) for a residence permit. The permit is required by law of any non-resident who wishes to study in Sweden for more than three months.
Our teachers speak English, but since the classes are conducted in Swedish we require all students to study the language. Further information regarding suitable language classes is available on request.
